We will help reduce your company’s emissions in 5 steps

1. Calculate

Our first step of action is to assess & calculate the current carbon footprint of your company. We take everything into account from products & services to organizations, operations and events. The goal is to objectively identify both the opportunities and threats for your firm related to CO2. CO2Comfort provides you with a comprehensive overview of the different ramifications and compares them in CO2 equivalents relative to their global warming potential (GWP).

2. Categorize

By categorizing your data into scopes we get an overview and the ability to report your emissions. This is important to track emissions over time and make sure all calculations are without error or double counted.

3. Cut down

Based on these calculations we identify the most pressing and impactful carbon reduction opportunities for your business. Furthermore, CO2Comfort assists you with the implementation of the suggested actions and the application process for third-party financing.

4. Compensate

Since it is currently impossible to completely eliminate an organization’s CO2 emission, CO2Comfort advises to compensate for these emissions by supporting certified climate projects. While not easy to identify, CO2Comfort is always happy to propose the right projects for your business.

5. Communicate

At CO2Comfort, we believe that companies that make the effort to reduce their impact on the global climate should be acknowledged for doing so. That is why we provide additional support to our clients by aiding them with their internal and external communication in order to gain confidence and acquire recognition.

1. Calculate

The first step is to assess & calculate the current carbon footprint. The calculation can be performed for products, services, organisations, operations, events, etc. It allows us to objectively identify the opportunities & threats related to CO2. Thus enabling a company to have a global overview of the different impacts and compare them in CO2 equivalents, each according to their global warming potential (GWP).

Calculating your emissions

While assessing and calculating your emissions we follow the 5 GHG Protocol principles strongly.
Relevance, Transparency, Completeness, Consistency & Accuracy.
These principles:
  • Simplify & reduce the burden of measurement
  • Illuminate reduction opportunities
  • Support management action and stakeholder reporting
  • Enable credible & consistent information

2. Categorize

By categorizing your data into scopes we get an overview and the ability to report your emissions. This is important to track emissions over time and make sure all calculations are without error or double counted.

Boundaries

Boundaries are set for consistency through the years. Which emission sources are included in the operation?

Organizational

  • Which operations included?
  • How are emissions divided?
  • Equity share
  • Financial control
  • Operational control

Operational

  • Which emission sources will be included?
  • How do we categorize these?

Scopes, categorizing your data

Scopes are necessary to further categorize your data. Scope 1 and 2 are mandatory to know, scope 3 is option.

Scope 1

Direct emission.
These are emissions from:
  • generated electricity, heat or steam on-site
  • processing
  • transport of product or people
  • fugitive emissions like leaks

Scope 2

Indirect emissions
These are emissions from
  • Purchased electricity, steam & heat
  • Market based choices if any available
It’s important that these emissions are calculated with respect to the 5 principles.

Scope 3 – optional

Indirect emissions
These can be upstream
  • Pre-processing & material acquisition
Or they can be downstream
  • Distribution & storage
  • Usage
  • End-of-life cycle
In scope 3 other companies may be covering these emissions already

3. Cut down

Based on these calculations we identify the most pressing and impactful carbon reduction opportunities for your business. Furthermore, CO2Comfort assists you with the implementation of the suggested actions and the application process for third-party financing.

Cutting down your missions

After calculating and categorizing all emissions we will check which GHG emitters can be handled efficiently to maximize reduction with minimal (financial) effort.

Assesment boundaries

The assessment boundary of your GHG project consist of primary effects and secondary effects. We find it important to map the secondary effects thoroughly as they can mitigate the primary effect.

Primary effect

What’s set out to reduce
Generally, there are 6 types of primary effects
From reduction in combustion emissions towards increasing GHG storage or removal by biological processes

Secondary effect

Effects that will come with primary goal.
Can be both positive or negative
Total magnitude is calculated by us.
With these effects in mind, we further optimize your emitters. For this we offer modular sustainable plug & play systems for the industry. These systems contain renewable & CO2 reducing technologies and can be optimized to have an ROI of 5-8 years.
If you like we can go all the way! Further investigating and trying to get your company carbon-zero, this means no GHG is emitted for the entire assessment. It is possible! To be carbon-zero energy efficiency must be 100% therefor waste heat recovery and energy storage is important. With our modular system investments can be done step by step over the years, storing and capturing more and more.
We have calculated ROI of 8 to 12 year. In 2050 Europe wants to be carbon-zero, with our modular system you can ease into it.
You will receive a second certificate acknowledging your carbon-zero efforts.

4. Compensate

While it’s difficult or financially not feasible to go carbon zero, CO2Comfort advises to compensate these emissions by supporting certified climate projects. CO2Comfort helps you to choose the legitamate projects so you don’t risk supporting green-washing projects.

Offsetting your GHG emissions

If interested, you can decide to offset (a part of) the remaining GHG with climate projects.
For this you will receive a second certificate that you are net zero. These certificates will be communicated thoroughly, both internal and external.

5. Communicate

At CO2Comfort, we believe that companies that make the effort to reduce their impact on the global climate should be acknowledged for doing so. That is why we provide additional support to our clients by aiding them with their internal and external communication in order to gain confidence and acquire recognition.

Communicating your efforts

With a clear label adapted to your achievements, you can show your stakeholders that you genuinely compensated your CO2
An explanation of the different kind of labels can be seen here.

Blue label

Efforts through savings and application of energy-saving technologies.

Green label

Blue + offset from other emissions.

Gold label

Efforts through savings and application of energy-saving technologies until emissions are avoided by covering consumption entirely with renewable energy, not yet cost-effective/impossible in every sector.
